Fermi Observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud
We report on observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud with the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope. The LMC is clearly detected with the Large Area Telescope (LAT) and for the first time the emission is spatially well resolved in gamma-rays. Our observations reveal that the bulk of the gamma-ray emission arises from the 30 Doradus region. We discuss this result in light of the massive star popula...
متن کاملJ-type carbon stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud
A sample of 1497 carbon stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) has been observed in the red part of the spectrum with the 2dF facility on the Anglo-Australian Telescope. Of these, 156 have been identified as J-type (i.e. 13C-rich) carbon stars using a technique which provides a clear distinction between J stars and the normal N-type carbon stars that comprise the bulk of the sample, and yiel...
متن کاملObservations of ground-state OH in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We have carried out a series of observations of the 1665and 1667-MHz transitions of the Π3/2, J=3/2 OH ground state towards six selected HII regions in the Large Magellanic Cloud (IRAS 05011-6815 and MRC 0510-689, 0513-694B, 0539-691, 0540-696B, 0540697A) using the Australia Telescope Compact Array. The study has provided the first accurate positions for known 1665and 1667-MHz OH masers as well...
متن کاملObservations of CO J = 4 → 3 High - Velocity Cloud in the 30 Doradus Complex in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We present the results of CO J = 2 → 1 observations of the X-ray bright giant shell complex 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using the Antarctic Submillimeter Telescope and Remote Observatory (AST/RO). This is the one of the largest H II complexes in the Local Group. We compare the CO J = 2 → 1 observations against previously taken CO J = 4 → 3 observations and analyze the spatial...
